Maxine McKew (ALP) beat John Howard (LIB) in the seat of Bennelong (NSW).

The break down of electorates is as follows:

	Australian Labor Party: 83
	Liberal Party: 48
	Nationals: 10
	Independent: 2
	Still doubtful: 7
