November 24 the date says Howard

Prime Minister John Howard announced an election this morning marking unemployment as one of the big issues.

Prime Minister John Howard announced an election this morning marking unemployment as one of the big issues.

Howard maintained that unemployment would go down under him and would go up under Labor. He twice made the point that Labor is made up of members 70 per cent of which are former union officials.

Interest rates also got a mention with Howard maintaining they would go up under  a Labor government, based on what has happened over the history of past governments.

Howard was asked about Iraq in questions time, saying that he has a clear position on Iraq (which he acknowledged not everyone agreed with), while Rudd has "two bob each way" saying that if he was really against it, Rudd would pull all troops out.

He said pulling out of Iraq would be perceived as defeat, which would increase terrorist activity.

Howard said that there was a strong level of general prosperity, bust said there were sections of the community who were missing out.

He identified Indigenous people as those who are missing out on prosperity, but added there are individuals and groups of individuals who are missing out as well.

Interestingly Howard admitted to making mistakes in the past with respect to Indigenous Australians, but said he was willing to admit that.

He said he would address high petrol prices and high cost of housing by maintaining focus on keeping the economy strong. He said fundamentally running a strong economy was the best way to run a government.

The message was - this elections  is not about new leadership or old leadership, but the right leadership.

What are your thoughts?

Um… If we have full employment, does that not mean there are unfilled jobs? err… this is a bad thing…

As for unions.. GO UNIONS!!! look at countries that dont have workers unions. Where do people think things such as the minimum wage, standard working week etc come from? UNIONS STOOD UP FOR THE WORKERS!
