On November 24th, Australian voters will head to the polls to vote in this year's Federal Election.

Prime Minister John Howard this morning visited Government House to seek permission to hold the election, it was granted.

At 10am (AWST), Mr Howard held a press conference announcing the date.

It is expected that opposition leader Kevin Rudd will address the media later today from Brisbane.

This will be the last time Mr Howard goes to Government House to seek permission to hold an election, even if his party win, having made a promise to step down before 2010.

Health Minister Tony Abbot urged people to stick with the coalition as he felt they were the underdogs in this election.
